If you chose to do so already — great to have you in our Open Stage Island team. Read this guide to discover more about us and how we see you fit. Thank you for your interest and dedication!

OSI is a musical venue on moderate mainland in a nature setting surrounded by water, accessible on foot, per teleport, by boat and even with a helicopter via the adjacent sim — an interactive experience for artists & audience, including neighbors. We're located close to Infohubs because we love newbies. Many artists starting here get picked up by other venues.

Our focus lies on electronic music, this can vary from relaxing lounge all the way to the filthiest dubstep and hardest teknobeats. Curious if your musical preference can be played live? Check out this non-exhaustive list:

Only live produced/mixed sets are allowed, including experimental and prepared performances, not a replay of your recording. Your prerecorded sets do not belong in a livestream at Open Stage Island (we already have radio, thanks). Do not fool yourself and your audience.

🎉 Open Stage

You don't need permission — connect and show us your skills! We have a hybrid concept where dj's that like to play spontaneously and those engaging in an organised, predetermined event can both perform. Different (or even the same) artists like different types of performances.

Open Stage Island is also offering reservable timeslots; we've a weekly lineup roster — you can play without scheduling!

Experience has taught us this is the most popular method of bringing live electronic music artists to an audience, catering to requests or inabilities to plan fixed moments. Everybody gets a chance at performing live.

📅 Reservations

If you're going for a recurrent weekly gig — please contact us if we haven't reached out to you already. We'll make a gcalendar event with your information; please provide your email address and some link to your earlier mixing.

If you're planning a single time event, use the reservations desk to book a free spot automatically in our timetable. This way, you can claim a free spot whenever you want. (It also calculates your own timezone for easier planning. Warning: until we have reviewed your reservation, your email address will be public (!))

Both routes are self-service: the weekly timetable shows what is already booked, and the reservation desk claims a free slot and works out your timezone automatically.

📺 Streaming

If you have questions about connecting & playing or mixing live at Open Stage Island, ask in the usual channels — the streaming guide covers it in full. You can play with a stream we provide!

As you set your stream (or somewhere when you start if using our shared stream) a dialog will appear: choose the music style closest to what you will be playing that set. Thanks for helping inform people more efficiently!

🤝 Hosting

Promoters are welcome, both working with a DJ as independent hosts. Invite some friends over, greet new visitors, inform about OSI in other groups (chat / notices). Introduce new dj's!

Make sure that you only post a notification one time in group per set. DJ's often post a notification themselves, so double check!

For hosts & promoters there is a diamond tip jar behind the stage at the arcade, next to the generator. Click it and the tipjar will float above you until you log out or leave. 17% of host tips are commission for Open Stage Island.

There is no commission on tips for djs, they always will receive 100% of the tips.

❓ FAQ

Can I change stage decoration?

Some artists might want to change things up a bit. You can click the front LED triangle screens to cycle through textures. If you keep complexity and texture area low enough, you can also attach some decorative party attachments on yourself, or rez some (autoreturn few minutes after you leave).

How do I lower lag?

There are a few important ways to reduce individual and overall lag:

  • Reduce draw distance to minimum range
  • Drop your graphical settings when there are many people
  • Lower maximum allowed avatars
  • Reduce the allowed particles

Another important element is the 3D complexity and script count of your avatar and attachments. Remove scripts you do not use (but first make a copy of those objects in your inventory) and you will immediately see a significant drop in lag.

Why do I hear annoying (repetitive) sounds throughout the music?

You can lower or even mute audio channels with separate volume for Buttons, Ambient, Sounds & Media on all SL viewers. Also allowing gestures of everyone for ambiance — this is the audio channel 'Sounds' so you can mute it yourself.

Is voice activated? How rude!

When there is no dj playing, voice will be enabled. Voice is automatically disabled when a dj starts to stream!

If this is an open stage, why would you even have scheduled timeslots?

We love our hybrid concept! Not every artist is the same: we're a growing crew of artists with different preferences; for some announcing & planning their gig ahead with a fix time is crucial to their performance, others are much better off spontaneous — only when they feel like it.

It allows scheduled artists to come back whenever they want and play some more throughout the week!

I am not a dj, can I still help?

Yes you can! Outside of our amazing crew of artists providing great sound experiences for guests, there are promoters that also greet/host AND we are looking for an event manager.

Open Stage Island runs its own set of subdomains under openstageis.land. Most of the estate is live — the timetable lists the current week's line-up, reservations book a slot, and the landmark drops you straight on the island in the Second Life map.
